Vietnam e-Visa photo

Vietnam's e-Visa portal (the Immigration Department's national portal) requires a portrait photo under 50 KB at upload, and the Foreign Ministry's published photo standard calls for a 4 x 6 cm photo taken within the last year: straight face, both ears shown, no hat, no dark or tinted glasses, white or bright background, clear and not edited. This tool crops and compresses your photo to the 4:6 frame under the 50 KB limit on your device - nothing is uploaded.

Checked against the official sources below on 7 Nov 2026.

Two official sources combine here (both checked November 2026): the Immigration Department's e-Visa portal states the upload limits - portrait photo under 50 KB, passport data-page image under 200 KB - and the Foreign Ministry's published visa photo standard gives the photo rules (4 x 6 cm, within 1 year, straight face, ears shown, no hat or tinted glasses, white/bright background, unedited).

The 50 KB limit is tight, so the export is sized 400 x 600 px - large enough for online review, small enough to fit. This tool never pads or degrades below honest quality; if a busy photo cannot fit under 50 KB, use a plainer original.

The Foreign Ministry rule against editing targets altering what the photo shows. Whether routine resizing and compression for upload counts as 'editing' is not spelled out in the published rules - but the portal itself requires a prepared file under 50 KB, so format preparation is unavoidable. This tool only crops, resizes and compresses; it never changes what the photo shows.

How to do it
  1. Take a photo against a plain white or bright background, facing the camera straight on.
  2. Remove hats and any dark or tinted glasses; make sure both ears are visible.
  3. Upload below, frame the face between the guide lines, and create the 4:6 file.
  4. Confirm every checklist line, download, and upload it as the portrait photo in your e-Visa application.
Common questions

What are the Vietnam e-Visa upload limits?
The official portal states them directly: the portrait photo must be under 50 KB and the passport data-page image under 200 KB.

What size photo does Vietnam require?
The Foreign Ministry's photo standard states 4 x 6 cm, taken within the last year, straight face with both ears shown, no hat, no dark or tinted glasses, white or bright background, unedited.

Is a smile allowed?
The published rules do not say; a neutral expression with the mouth closed is the safe choice.

Can I use a black and white photo?
The Foreign Ministry standard accepts colour or black and white - colour is the safer choice for a digital application.
